GHANA CULTURAL SAFARI AND DENTAL MISSION TRIP

Explore the rich cultural heritage of Ghana while digging deep into its history. Do a Safari and give back to the friendly locals in a dental mission.

They say that Ghana is near the “center” of the world, enough reason for those bitten by the travel bug to visit this African nation. This country is bordered by the Gulf of Guinea, the Atlantic Ocean, and the less-traveled Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast, one of the most beginner-friendly African destinations.

Thanks to the coast, this West African nation has a warm climate that attracts sun-worshippers. Beyond the shores, it has grasslands, shrublands, forests, savannahs, and mangroves where wildlife thrives. Its bustling urban centers are places of awe, too.

Tourists who plan to swim, stroll the city, or be within lush forests will have a good time in Ghana.

Especially if you have chosen Safari N Smiles as your travel partner.

Aburi Garden is a very beautiful and popular destination found on the hills of Aburi in the eastern part of Ghana, a few kilometers away from the main city, Accra. The garden is made up of hundreds of plants that have a lot of medicinal uses, some of which are used to cure many illnesses. They are used to make different spices and are also used for beautification purposes. There is also a carved tree that looks like a real dead tree, which represents the struggles of life. Most of the trees were planted by colonial masters and other important leaders around Africa. Overnight stay in Accra (Lancaster Hotel)

DAY 5: March 5th 2024
Kakum National Park was established in 1932. Kakum National Park is a home for lovers of nature. The park is made up of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest and is one of the most famous national parks in Ghana. It protects the plant and animal treasures of the African tropical forest. Trails provide self-guided day hiking opportunities where you may sight some of the over 200 bird species represented: the parrot, bee-eaters, blue plantain-eaters, hornbills, and kingfishers. The dense vegetation provides cover for globally endangered species such as the forest elephant and bongo, the largest forest antelope, as well as various types of monkeys.
The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides a treetop view of the beautiful forest. Cape Coast Castle Cape Coast Castle is one of the largest of the castles built by European powers in Ghana today. It began as a trade lodge constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 on a part of the Gold Coast, which later became known as the Cape Coast. The Cape Coast Castle has served as the West African headquarters of the president of the Committee of Merchants, the seat of the British governor, and a school. It is open to the public and is currently a historical museum with a Ghanaian arts and crafts gift shop. It is also the regional headquarters of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. Kwame Nkrumah Museum/Black Star Square/Arts Centre/Nightlife
DAY 7: March 7th 2024
Kwame Nkrumah Museum is also known as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the last resting place of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This museum is dedicated to him to honor his dedication to liberating Ghana, formally known as the Gold Coast, from colonial rule. The museum houses the personal effects and publications of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and pictures showing his life history with some of the most famous people of his time.

Black star square Kwame Nkrumah commissioned Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, to honor the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. Independence Square is a vast, empty expanse of concrete overlooked by spectator stands, which can seat about 30,000 people.
The Independence Arch was an inspiration to other African countries vying for independence and the Flame of African Liberation. The roundabout before the square contains, in the center, the Black Star Gate, also known as the Black Star Monument, which was built in 1961. The vast area, built under Kwame Nkrumah’s regime, is designed for huge events, military marches, and commercial events such as concerts and fashion shows, which take place throughout the year.

Art Centre The Center for National Culture Crafts Market can also be simply known as the Arts Center. There are so many different stalls selling different varieties of Ghanaian-inspired arts and crafts, and this is one of the cool places to shop in Accra. There is so much to see and buy, from woven Kente cloth to wooden sculptures to earrings and other fashion accessories matched with the latest in African attire fashion from all over Ghana. Nightlife Guests who are interested in having a nightlife experience in Accra would be able to visit any of these hangout options (but not restricted to these options), provided they have a feel for Accra at night. Some of these hangout options have contemporary live band music with good food and drinks. Overnight stay in Accra (Lancaster Hotel)

Maurice, et al. were very accommodating and always available! They made this trip so wonderful with all the events we had planned! And even if things didn’t go as planned, you weren’t lost in the mix. I can’t say enough how incredible this was and very valuable to be able to take my 7 year old daughter! I am so excited to go on more adventures with Safari N Smiles!

I have always wanted to go on a dental mission trip to Kenya. When I learned about Safari N Smiles, I immediately knew this was the organization I would want to travel with. It may sound cliché, but this was a life-changing trip. The trip was well organized with a comprehensive plan. If you are looking for a relaxing trip, this is not the trip for you. We were constantly on the move. Every minute spent in Kenya was meticulously planned (thank you Morris and Lizzie). Upon arrival, we were greeted by some locals and staff who were incredibly welcoming. In fact, they made us feel like we were part of their community/family. The hospitality was unlike anything I have ever experienced. We toured most of Kenya and its breathtaking landscapes, visiting many cities/towns, toured a coffee farm, and got to drink delicious Kenyan coffee. Drove in a comfortable land rover throughout our journey, going on 11 game drives we were able to see jaw-dropping wildlife in their natural habitat. We fed giraffes in a sanctuary, saw flamingos in Nakuru National Park, interacted with the Maasai people, cycled and hiked through Hell’s Gate National Park, went on a hot air balloon ride over the safari (with a beautiful champagne breakfast following), took multiple CE courses, and most importantly provided dental care and education to underserved people who otherwise would go without. The gratitude and appreciation of the people that we helped was truly amazing. I would highly recommend traveling with Safari N Smiles, it truly exceeded my expectations. In fact, I’m already planning for the next adventure!

We had a great time with Morris and Lizzie on this trip. My sister is the dentist that found the trip for us and brought the whole family along for the ride. It was truly a once in a lifetime trip with so many great people.

Zero regrets! I took my 13 year old daughter and made memories that will last a lifetime. Not once did she complain about not enough access to WiFi or internet (it was surprisingly available and if you have children you know what I’m talking about). It’s amazing what experiences the world has to offer if we can just look up long enough to recognize them. She spent half a day blowing up balloons for the kids while we did the dental work and realized how easily happiness comes circumstantially. The world needs more of people like Morris and Lizzie enabling the rest of us to see AND to serve. I will travel with them again!
